Another hour or so passed before Jen got back to their apartment, and walked in to see Joe with a worried expression on his face. Jen: Joe? Are you ok? Joe: My parents came by Jen: What! Joe: Ya Jen: What did they say? Joe: They were pretty mad about us leaving but, they're not gonna make us leave Jen: Oh, well, its not that bad is it? Joe: Jen, they know about last night, what we did Jen: You told them! Joe: No, they figured it out. Two people living together in a one bedroom apartment, its pretty obvious Jen: Ya, I guess it is (sitting back into the couch) Its only a matter of time before my father comes busting the door down now Joe: Im just still trying to process what my mom said to me Jen: What did she say? Joe: Well for starters, she fully expects you to get pregnant soon, but, she also said that if you do pregnant I need to ask dad what to do, because Im apparently acting just like him Jen: (feeling a look of confusion cross her face) Why would she say something like that? Joe: (lifting his hands in confusion as well) Beats me. Unless, do you think my parents did this when they were young? Jen: Do what? Joe: What we're doing, living together unmarried and all Jen: But she said you were acting like your dad, not me and you acting like them Joe: Yeah, true Jen: (feeling an idea come to her) But, maybe she means that she got pregnant before they were married. With Kevin Joe: (letting that realization hit him as well) Oh my gosh, you're right, that has to be it. Because, they've been married for 23 years and he'll be 23 this year. Why did I never see that before? Jen: So Kevin was a mistake, thats what she's talking about, she doesnt want you to have a kid by mistake Joe: I wonder if Kevin even knows Jen: Something tells me he doesnt, if you didnt. But then again, it wasnt you that was born first so maybe he does Joe: Why did she never tell us? Jen: Well, maybe she was ashamed to say that she was pregnant before they were married Joe: But thats their life why should she be concerned with what happens in mine? If you get pregnant, so what, we'll raise our baby and be perfectly happy about it Jen: Its that fact of having a baby before marriage Joe, its very wrong to some. And honestly, I dont think we could handle it right now, we're just 18, there's no way I could handle it Joe: (sighing) Its just like my mom to throw me for a guilt trip. I feel so bad about this now. I mean I still wanna live with you Im not leaving but, I cant just stop having sex with you now that we've done it. What if you do get pregnant Jen? Jen: Then we'll prevent me from getting pregnant, that is very possible you know Joe: (taking a deep breath) This is why I need you with me, I dont think clearly when Im by myself Jen: (smiling alittle and hugging him) Its gonna be ok. We just have to show your parents that we can be responsible enough to live on our own maturely Joe: What about your dad, would that be enough for him? Jen: (sighing) We'll deal with him when that time comes, because I have a feeling that it wont be long until that time is here
